Sold: Robey Farm
This is a good opportunity to purchase a very unique property NE of Ames that has a large wetlands plus excellent quality tillable land. It is possible to build a single family home and outbuildings on the tillable acres portion. The property is home to a large population of pheasants and deer as well as waterfowl on their way south and back north plus a few all summer nesting in the marsh. The water and grassland surrounding is part of a Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) that is meant to improve water quality and wildlife enhancement. The dam is called a “Weir” since it is not a typical earthen dam but rather a metal and concrete structure to hold back water but allow large volumes to be released out of the wetlands in times of heavy rains. The owner also allows researchers at Iowa State University to monitor the wetlands and water quality. We hope that could continue with a new owner. The CREP maintenance agreement runs until 2042 so the wetlands, weir and grassland cannot be disturbed (except maintenance) while the agreement is in place. It is located 4 miles from I-35.
